Risa Hontiveros slams netizen over comment on her high-slit outfit: 'Stop telling women how to dress'

Opposition lawmaker Risa Hontiveros got criticized by a netizen after the ceremonial class photo among legislators noting her choice of barong-inspired dress.

“Dear Risa Hontiveros, Dress appropriately. There’s a place and time to dress like a thirsty slut and a senator of the republic. #CoverUp #SONA2019,” netizen Carlo Malonzo tweeted

In the said photo, Hontiveros was seated in front, crossed legs, making her outfit look shorter and slit tighter – her thigh captured by the camera.

Hontiveros, on the other hand, fires back saying it’s not the person’s place to dictate what women should wear.

"Unang araw pa lang ng 18th Congress may ganito na agad (It's only the first day of the 18th Congress but I'm getting this already). Stop telling women how to dress," she said in response on Facebook

Hontiveros authored the Republic Act 11213 or the Safe Spaces Act, or commonly called anti-bastos law. It was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on April 12.

With the said law, sexist remarks, cat-calling, and other forms of gender-based harassment in the streets, other public areas, in government offices, in workplaces and schools, and online will be
penalized.

  1. The comment against Hontiveros. Women do dress up PERO IBAGAY SA OKASYON. Hindi komo nakabarong ka okay na? Miss Hontivirus ibagay ang tabas sa okasyon. Ang mataas na slit ay isinusuot sa mga okasyon na may inuman at naghahanap ng lalaki.
