House Speaker Alan Peter Cayetano hits the challenged media
giant ABS CBN for bias during the 2010 and 2016 presidential elections in favor
of certain candidates.
Cayeteno said the Lopez family and the network’s executive should
address this ‘bias’ issue as it can affect the status of ABS CBN’s pending franchise
renewal.
“Noong 2010 at 2016 election, yung pakikialam sa eleksyon
malaking isyu yun,” Cayetano said during a public event in Paranaque
“Walang doubt na institusyon ang ABS-CBN, walang doubt na
napakalaking naitulong sa ating bansa, pero wala ring doubt na may mga issues.
Kaya nga sinabing ‘A-Bias-CBN’,” he added.
Cayetano also countered that ABS CBN was allegedly bias in
the last two elections despite the existing law.
“Meron tayong Fair Election Act, may batas tayo na ang media
hindi pwedeng hindi patas kapag eleksyon,” he said
In another report by Politiko, Cayetano also said that alleged
bad labor practices committed by the network giant is another factor that might
affect the franchise renewal.
“Yung mga contractual. ‘Yung mga tinanggal. ‘Yun mga ‘pag lumipat
ng ibang channel, hindi tatanggapin pabalik. ‘Yung mga iba na 15 months, 6
months, 9 months, hindi binigyan ng trabaho,” said Cayetano.
ABS CBN has also been accused of multiple violations of the
Labor Code particularly over issues of alleged “union busting” as well as
contractualization, that resulted to mass layoff of its ground personnel in the
past.
