Newly-appointed OWWA Deputy Administrator Mocha Uson |
Margaux “Mocha” Uson, former Assistant Secretary of the
Presidential Communications Operations Office (PCOO) is set to join the
Overseas Workers Welfare Association (OWWA).
According to the Philippine News Agency, Uson was included
to the new presidential appointees. She was appointed as Deputy Administrator
of the OWWA on Sept. 23.
She will be replacing former OWWA Deputy Administrator
Arnaldo Arevalo "Arnell" Ignacio, who tendered his resignation in
February this year, the PNA report says.
Earlier reports say that Ignacio has resigned from his position
due to “personal reasons” which he did not disclose.
OWWA is an attached agency of the Department of Labor and
Employment (DOLE).
Uson, a pro-Duterte blogger and entertainer, was appointed
as PCOO Assistant Secretary in May 2017.
She drew flak over a video on her personal blog showing Drew
Olivar, her co-host in Good News Game Show, singing and dancing while making
vulgar gestures to promote the shift to a federalism system of government.
Uson also received criticisms after releasing another video
mocking sign language but has apologized for her mistake.
In May 2019 elections, Uson ran as representative of the AA
Kasosyo party-list, but lost.
Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo
clarified that Uson’s appointment is not covered by the one-year appointment
ban.
