Manila, Philippines - Former Philippine National Police
(PNP) chief Ronald “Bato” Dela Rosa slays during the CNN Philippines’
senatorial forum last Saturday, April 27 as he bravely faced off opposition candidates
on different issues.
From the water crisis to the drug war then Chine debt trap,
Dela Rosa became the one-man wrecking crew of President Rodrigo Duterte against
the Otso Diretso bets.
“Paano ako makakalma, ang dami nila, ako lang mag-isa kaya
kailangan ko bigyan diin, walo-walo sila,” says Dela Rosa when the debate host
tried to calm him down.
During the give-and-take on the drug war of the debate, Dela
Rosa nearly lost his cool as he dealt with attacks from different sides.
The former PNP chief found himself parrying with seven opposition
senatorial candidates; Chel Diokno, Erin Tanada, Florin Hilbay, Samira Gutoc,
Gary Alejano, and Romy Macalintal and former Bayan Muna Rep. Neri Colmenares.
Though surrounded, Dela Rosa won the audience over with his
sincerity and frankness.
When asked if he has ever been corrupt, he recalled his hatred
to stealing even when he was a child.
“Never ako nagnakaw kahit survival ang iniisip ko. Eight
kilometers ang nilalakad ko sa eskuwelahan ‘pag wala akong pera,” he said.
