The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday reported that total of 168 individual that include 23 local government officials were arrested over possession of loose firearms during the operations conducted by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

According to PNP chief Gen. Oscar Albayalde, the arrests were the result of the CIDG’s implementation of 193 search warrants. It was facilitated nationwide from March 22 to 28.



“I am pleased to take note of the significant results of a nationwide weeklong operation launched by the CIDG under Maj. Gen Amador Corpus against organized crime and loose firearms,” Albayalde told the media during a briefing in Camp Crame.

Mayor Romeo Vargas of Tubajon, Dinagat Island was among the personalities arrested on March 23 for possession of an M16 rifle, a .22 caliber revolver and ammunition.

Another local official, Tagbina Vice Mayor Antonio Adlao was also apprehended over the same offense.

The other execs listed were 20 barangay councilors, nine barangay captains, one municipal councilor and one general service officer. Meanwhile, 145 violators were civilians.

In a report by Philstar, it stated that total of 248 assorted firearms, 34 explosives and 6,605 pieces of ammunition were confiscated during the said weeklong operations.

Albayalde cleared that their arrest has nothing to do with politics, insisting that they were apprehended because of the evidence against them.


“We don’t care who it is, whether incumbent or what they call political rival,” Albayalde said.
