The alleged regional finance officer of the Communist Party
of the Philippines (CPP)- National People’s Army (NPA) was nabbed on Friday at
around 2:50 in the afternoon at Barangay Bading, Butuan City.
Arrested was Leonida Guao with aliases of Leah, Ligaya, and
Laya, who is reported the CPP-NPA finance officer in Caraga region and Mindanao.
The suspect is now under the custody of the CARAGA regional
police.
She was arrested in a joint military and police operation, in
accordance to the warrant of arrest issued by the Regional Trial Court of Bayugan
City, Agusan del Sur.
The authority described her as one of the high-ranking
leader of the CPP-NPA, she handles the terror-group’s funds in Mindanao.
"This arrest is a result of the cooperation of the
whole community and the different law enforcement agencies. It also proves that
the terrorists cannot run away from the long arm of the law," said Lt. Gen
Benjamin R. Madrigal Jr., the Commander of the Easter Mindanao Command (EMC).
Captain Anthony Al Pueblas, Civil Military Office (CMO)
officer of the 36th infantry Battalion of the Philippine Army also
said that Guao’s arrest is a big accomplishment in line with the campaign of
the government against terrorist.
The arrest of Guao is supposedly the third arrest of another
high-ranking rebel official this week, says the police and military forces.
On Wednesday, authorities rearrested the National Democratic
Front (NDF) consultant Rafael Baylosis for murder case. And another NDF Consultant
Rommel Salinas was also arrested for frustrated murder on Thursday, in Ozamis
City, according to the Northern Mindanao Police.
Both are now facing charges of illegal possession of
explosives, which is a non-bailable case.
