Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto on Sunday announced that the city government will provide financial assistance to the families not included in the national government’s social amelioration program (SAP) implemented by the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) during the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ).

As the DSWD announced the they will only cover 93,000 out of 206,000 families in Pasig City. Sotto said the city government listed 206,000 families in their city for the SAP. However, only 93,000 families were approved.

Mayor Sotto aired on Facebook live, explaining that the 93,000 figure of the DSWD was from the 2015 survey of the census.

He also added that while the financial assistance from DSWD was already a great help, it will still not cover all families in the area.

Sotto announced that the local government will be implementing a “Pasig Supplemental social amelioration program (SAP)” to help all the families in Pasig City.

“Lahat po ng nangangailangan na wala po sa listahan ng DSWD, sasaluhin po ng lokal na pamahalaan ng Pasig,” he announced.

“Hindi po natin kaya ‘yung buong halaga na P8,000 for 2 months or 16,000, hindi po natin kaya yung ganung kalaking halaga pero gagawin natin ang lahat nang makakaya at naghahanap po tayo ng pondo para makapag-realign po tayo,” he added.

The Pasig City officials are still studying the budget of the city so that they will know how much help the city can give to support those not in the list of the DSWD.

“We can’t afford the amount of P8,000 for two months — or P16,000. We can’t afford that big an amount. But we will do whatever we can,” he said.

“We will look for funds so that we could realign. Or we will put out the money that Pasig has in its trust fund, with the permission of our City Council, which we know will also help us,” he added.

Previously, Mayor Sotto announced that the local government will also shoulder the cremation fee of the COVID-19 patients who passed away.

Mayor Vico Sotto is the son of actor and TV host Vic Sotto and veteran actress Coney Reyes. Recently, he has been receiving compliments for his efficient leadership in Pasig City.
