Si President Rodrigo Duterte mismo ang nagbigay ng idea na
maaring ipatupad sa bansa ng plastic ban bilang isa na itong matinding usapin
sa ibang dako ng mundo dahil sa climate change.
Ayon kay Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo, inilabas ng
pangulo ang panukala sa isang pagpupulong kasama ang mga miyembro ng gabinete
noong Miyerkoles.
"The President floated the idea to ban the use of
plastics, which according to him would require legislative action," ani
Panelo.
Lumabas sa huling research ng grupong Global Alliance for
Incinerator Alternatives, na umaabot sa 60 bilyong piraso ng sachets at 34
bilyong piraso ng plastic bags ang binabasura sa Pilipinas taon taon.
Ang ideyang ito ay sinang-ayunan naman ni senador Cynthia
Villar na tiwalang mapag tatagumpayan ng pangulo ang pagpapatupad nito.
“With the President taking the lead in this campaign, I am
confident we will be making significant headway and finally remove us from that
disconcerting title as one of the world’s largest producers of plastic wastes,”
ayon kay Villar.
Si Villar ay nagpasa ng Senate Bill No. 333 or the
Single-Use Plastic Product Regulation Act, para magkaroon ng control ang pag
manufacture, pag-import at paggamit ng mga produktong single-use plastics.
Ayon kay Villar, ang micro-plastics ay maaring humalo sa
ating mga pagkain, dahil napupunta ito sa mga karagatan at pwede namang makain
ng mga lamang dagat.
“With our dependence on agriculture, plastic pollution also
poses a grave threat to our food security. Disaster risks and hazards arising
from plastic pollution may put farms at risk of flooding resulting in wastage
of agricultural products along with its threats to a balanced ecology,” Ayon sa

“Microplastics leaked in our bodies of water may also put
public health at risk as it gets into our food chain,” dagdag pa niya
Ikinatuwa din ng Department of Environment and Natural
Resources (DENR) at iba pang grupo ang ideyang ito ni Pangulong Duterte.
“It’s a good move. It (single-use plastics) is a huge
problem.” Ayon kay DENR Undersecretary Annaliza Rebulta Teh
Dagdag ni The, tutulong din umano ang DENR na irekomenda ito
sa mga ahensya ng gobyerno para maiwasan ang paggamit ng single-use plastics
(SUPs).
Ang mga SUPs ay mga produktong gawa sa plastic na maari
lamang gamitin ng isang beses. Ilang halimbawa nito ay ang bote ng inumin,
cups, sachets, straws, plastic bags at polystyrene containers.
