MalacaƱang seems not liking the idea of giving Vice
President Leni Robredo the power to appoint the next Philippine National Police
(PNP) chief, according to reports.
In an article by Politiko, Presidential Spokesperson
Salvador Panelo said that having Robredo get to choose the next PNP General is
a “crazy” idea.
“Kalokohan yun… Masyado silang maraming hinihingi.
Pinagbigyan na nga,” Panelo said
President Rodrigo Duterte signed Robredo’s appointment as
co-chair of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) last
October 31
It stated that Robredo will be of service as anti-drug czar
until June 30, 2022.
“The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency, Philippine National
Police, and Dangerous Drugs Board and all other law enforcement agencies are
hereby directed to extend their full assistance and cooperation to the Vice
President to ensure the success of the Government’s efforts in the war against
illegal drugs,” the memorandum said
Panelo urges the Vice President to grab the opportunity to
become part of the Cabinet members.
“Tanggapin na niya iyan kasi, pagkakataon na nya. Kung ako
sa kanya, welcome naman sya sa Cabinet, tanggapin na niya,” Panelo said.
