“Corrupt public officials have no place on earth. But corrupt officials stealing health funds deserve an upgraded and super special suite in hell.”

This was what Senator Panfilo Lacson said in his privilege speech on Monday, July 29, concerning the alleged conflict of interest in government involving the Department of Health (DOH) Secretary Francisco Duque.

"Is it not incumbent upon Secretary Duque to exercise professionalism and ethical standards by stopping all dealings of his family’s corporation with the very government agency that he heads?" Lacson said.

According to reports, Duque family’s drug manufacturing company continued to bid in government projects – which happened while Duque was at the helm of the health agency.

"Ang pinakalantaran na paglabag sa umiiral na batas ay ang pagpatuloy ng kontrata ng EMDC at Philhealth sa kabila ng pag-upo ni Francisco Duque bilang kalihim ng Department of Health at ex-officio chairperson ng Philhealth simula noong October 2017," Lacson said.

Aside from this, Lacson also revealed Duque family had leased out a building in Pangasinan to the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation.

Philhealth’s office in Ilocos allegedly had a 6-year lease contract with the DOH chief’s family in Dagupan City. The contract reportedly started in 2012 and ended in 2018.

  1. Never mind a special upgraded and super suite in hell. Most people would be happy to see corrupt government officials have an expressway (made by Secretary Villar) to the New Bilibid Prisons in Muntinglupa. Which reminds me, why is Lacson against including corrupt government officials in the death penalty law?
