Manila, Philippines – For opposition senator Leila de Lima,
it is certain that senatorial candidate Gary Alejano will “uphold” country’s
sovereignty against foreign invaders like China.
The detained senator said Alejano is among the few who “have
guts” to speak against the government abuses and go against President Rodrigo
Duterte’s inhumane policies.
“During this time of chaos, we need leaders with
extraordinary courage to speak truth to power. We need Gary Alejano who has the
will to reclaim our national dignity and fight for our sovereignty,” De Lima
said in a statement dispatched from her cell.
“Magiting na sundalo. Ipagtatanggol ang dangal ng Pilipinas
at Pilipino. #5 Alejano. We badly need Gary Alejano at the Senate,” the
opposition senator said.
In 2017, former soldier turned lawmaker dared to file an
impeachment complaint against President Rodrigo Duterte for alleged betrayal of
public trust, bribery, and crimes related to EJKs.
“We need leaders who have the will and capacity to confront
the powerful, and the imagination and ability to lead the powerless,” De lima
said
“They will not shirk in their responsibility to the people,
even as they have to make decisions on the basis of conviction not expediency
or political survival. We badly need such leaders in this time and place,” she
said
