Manila, Philippines – Daraga Mayor Carlwyn Baldo, 48, the suspected mastermind in the slay of Ako Bicol Partylist Rep. Rodel Batocabe and his security escort last December, was arrested Tuesday afternoon.

Agents of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG)-Albay, Bicol PNP’s Regional Mobile Force Battalion, Regional Intelligence Unit, and the Daraga Municipal Police Station raided the house of Baldo where unlicensed guns and ammunition were found.



According to Manila Bulletin’s report, the arrest was made while policemen where implementing two search warrants on Baldo’s house on Lakandula Drive, Barangay Tagas, Daraga, Albay, for unlicensed guns.

The agents and police found two unlicensed caliber .45 pistols, a magazine for an Uzi machine pistol loaded with seven bullets, an ammunition for M203 grenade launcher, eight ammunition for caliber .45 pistol, and one ammunition for an M16 rifle.

Along with these, Baldo’s white Isuzu Alterra with license plate of BCW 941 which was among the subjects of the search warrant was also seized.

The vehicle was allegedly used by the suspects in carrying out the hit job.

Meanwhile, few hours after the arrest, Philippine News Agency reported that Baldo was hospitalized after.

The report states that Senior Supt. Arnold Ardiente, CIDG-Bicol head, said Baldo was brought to the UST Hospital in Legazpi City around 11:30 p.m.  


Ardiente said the mayor's blood pressure shot up and experienced hyperventilation and asthma attack while inside the cell.

Given that, the CIDG-Bicol head said that Baldo did not disclose any medical history prior to his detention.
