Manila, Philippines – On Friday, detained Senator Leila De Lina called on her colleagues in Liberal Party to continue efforts in working together in combating threat against democracy and fight for people’s rights.

De lima made her statement during the 72nd anniversary of the erstwhile ruling party.

“Sa panahon man ng kadiliman at mapaniil na pamahaaan, nariyan ang LP at ang mga naninindigang miyembro upang ipagtanggol at ipaglaban ang ating kalayaan, demokrasya at mga karapatan,” the lady senator said.

She reiterated that since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office, thousands have been killed under the administration’s war on drugs.

De lima also cited that many individuals were jailed for supposedly opposing the government.
Currently, the PDP-Laban has dominated the Congress, is also pushing for charter change, which would likely lead to change of government form – federalism.

“Sa pananahimik at pagwawalang kibo ng marami nating pinuno at kababayan, lalong sinasagad ng kasalukuyang gobyerno ang pagyurak sa ating Saligang Batas at pagtapak sa ating karapatang pantao,” De Lima said.

According to De lima, she would even bind the party members and help them establish “meaningful transformation” especially, now that democracy, justice and truth were being ‘undermined’.

“Higit pa sa ating pagiging ‘dilawan,’ higit pa sa hawak nating katungkulan o kapangyarihan, Pilipino tayong may obligasyon at nagmamalasakit sa kapwa Pilipino; Pilipino tayong nagnanais na maibalik ang ating pambansang dangal,” she said.

Many members of Liberty Party already shifted to the ruling party – PDP Laban after president Duterte assumed presidency.

Senator De Lima is currently detained at the police headquarters in Camp Crame after she was charged of protecting and coddling drug lords inside the New Bilibid Reason during her time as the Justice Secretary.
