Establishment of biggest fertilizer production opposed by Tarlac officials; "Kahit si Secretary Piñol o si President Duterte, wala silang magagawa pag ayaw namin."”

Manila, Philippines – In a lengthy Facebook post, Secretary of Department of Agriculture Manny Pinol disclosed that Tarlac town officials blocked use of Organic fertilizer facility for agri purposes, and calls it “political colors at play”.

The said facility will use chicken manure from the Central Luzon farms which was proven to prevent spread of poultry diseases.

According to the secretary, the Vice Mayor and members of the town council opposed the project and showed a letter signed by 11 individuals.

“Anao town vice mayor Rafael Naral and the town council summoned officials of the Settimo Drago Ratto Properties, Inc., which owns the property near the TPLEX (Tarlac-Pangasinan-La Union Expressway) on Nov. 6 to inform them that there is an opposition to the establishment of the facility in the town.” Sec. Pinol wrote.

It was known that Tarlac is the home town of the former president Benigno Aquino III. The secretary also said that most of the town officials belong to the National People’s Coalition (NPC).

“When informed that the facility is a priority project of the Department of Agriculture to address the Chicken Dung program in Central Luzon, the Anao officials reportedly said: "Kahit si Secretary Piñol o si President Duterte, wala silang magagawa pag ayaw namin."” Mr. Pinol shared.

He also said that the decision of the Vice Mayor and the Anao town council was a complete opposite of the Mayor, who was an independent candidate during the election. The mayor, Betty Lacbayan reportedly welcomed the establishment of the said facility in their town.

The Department of Agriculture said that this facility could be the biggest organic fertilizer production in the country, it also ensure to contain spread of diseases as the manures will be collected efficiently and processed thus, no need to deliver it in its raw form.

Mr. Pinol called on to Tarlac Governor Susan Yap to talk to Anao Vice Mayor and the town council as this facility could give more boost to the Philippine agriculture.
