Alledge top NPA leader in northern Negros falls

An alleged top leader of the New People’s Army (NPA) in northern Negros was arrested by a joint military and police troops at a checkpoint in Barangay Caduha-an, Cadiz City on Tuesday night.

Cadiz City, Negros Occidental. LtCol. Robert Mansueto, acting Cadiz City police chief, identified the suspect as Gaspar Davao, alias Aldong.

Davao is said to be the secretary of both the White Area Committee and the Section Committee “Tabacco”, and finance staff of the North Negros Front.

Col. Inocencio Pasaporte, commander of 303rd IBde, commended the troops who conducted the arrested of Davao.

“The Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police will continue to intensify efforts to hunt down members of communist-terrorists in Negros to preempt their terroristic and extortion activities,” Pasaporte said in a statement on Wednesday.

According to Philippine News Agency report, Davao was on board on a passenger van when the operatives noticed him not wearing a face mask.

As the security personnel conducted the inspection inside the vehicle and Davao drew a grenade from his bag which prompted the troops to restrain him.

Reports said that arrest of Davao yielded a fragmentation grenade, subversive documents, P14,000 in cash, eight cellular phones, cash transactions, newsletters of the Roselyn Jean Pelle Command, receipts and confidential documents.

Davao was said to be the respondent of a search warrant dated Oct. 31, 2019, issued by Executive Judge Cecilyn Burgos-Villavert of Regional Trial Court Branch 89 in Quezon City.

He was supposed to be searched for violation of Republic Act 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Law but escaped when the warrant was served.
