Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed on Friday that President Rodrigo Duterte wanted Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto and other mayors to be as incompetent and uncaring just like the chief executive himself.
“The press con of Duterte last night was basically about preventing Mayor Vico Sotto from doing productive initiatives to serve his constituents,” Trillanes said in a tweet
“Duterte wants the mayors to be as incompetent and uncaring as himself,” he added.
In a public speech on Friday morning, the President ordered that local government units should follow the national government rules on the implemented lockdown in Luzon and not go beyond the instructions.
Duterte also stressed that any local officials who would abuse their authority in implementing the community quarantine regulations may face administrative and criminal charges.
This order from the president came after some mayors were reported not following the rules and implemented their own quarantine guidelines without coordination with the national government units that only resulted to confusion.
With this, Trillanes believed that Duterte was trying to weaken the LGU officials amid the spread of COVID-19 in the country.
