Robredo appeals to fellow politicians amid COVID-19: 'iyong pambayad niyo sa trolls, itulong niyo na muna'

On her weekly radio show which she co-hosts with anchor Ely Saludar, Vice President Leni Robredo appealed to her fellow government officials to prioritize providing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) front-liners with protective gear.

Robredo said that bugdet for online trolls should instead be used to give assistance to those in need.


“Parati kong sinasabi na iyong pambayad niyo sa trolls, utang na loob, itulong niyo na muna kasi kailangan na kailangan iyong tulong ngayon. Ibili na lang nila ng protective gear para sa ating mga frontliners,” she said

The vice president cited that she pictures of police at a checkpoint without protective gear.

“Kanina, may nakita akong pictures ng mga pulis sa checkpoint ng... sa may Bulacan yata, sa boundary ng Bulacan—walang protective gear,” Robredo said

“So ito, pakiusap lang natin, huwag naman tayong—huwag naman nating hahayaan na iyong frontliners natin malalagay sa alanganin. Ang laki ng sakripisyo para sa kanila, pero siguraduhin natin na protected sila.” she said

Critics of President Rodrigo Duterte has been accusing him of hiring so-called online trolls to spread propaganda against the opposition.


Meanwhile, on Monday March 16, the President has declared that Luzon areas will be placed under 'Enhanced Lock down' to further contain the spread of COVID-19.
