GMA News, ABS CBN’s biggest competitor, has set rivalry
aside and supported the franchise renewal of the latter, this was the news
revealed by Senator Grace Poe.
“Alam mo, ‘yung mga kapatid natin, kaibigan sa GMA,
nakakausap ko. Sila ay supportive rin. Kasi sa industriya, ‘di ba, ayaw mo
naman na walang pagkakataon ‘di ba?” she said in a interview with showbiz
reporters.
According to Politiko website, Congress has not yet acted on
bills seeking to grant the media giant with its franchise renewal.
Before Senate could move on the next step, the House must
first pass a bill for ABS CBN’s franchise.
Poe also claimed that some senators are supporting the
renewal of the broadcasting’s franchise which is set to expire on March 30 this
year.
“Marami akong mga nakausap na mga kasama natin doon.
Suportado naman nila ang pagre-renew nito. Pero syempre, kikilatisin din mabuti
ag magiging kasunduan sa franchise,” Poe said
Earlier, President Rodrigo Duterte warns that he will not
allow the renewal of ABS CBN’s franchise over bias reporting and for “swindling”
him for not airing his campaign commercial.
"Your contract is about to expire. You will try to
renew it but I don't know what will happen to that," Duterte said in
December 2019
"Kung ako sa inyo ipagbili niyo na 'yan. Kasi ang mga
Filipino ngayon lang makaganti sa inyong kalokohan (If I were you, I would sell
it. It's only now that Filipinos would be able to get back at your
wrongdoings). And I will make sure that you will remember this episode of our
times forever," he added.
