President Rodrigo Duterte said on Thursday, that at least
two generals are still engaged in the illegal drug trade.
The chief executive can’t
wait to fly back to the Philippines to address the case of the two high ranking officials involved.
“And right now, even
as I fly here and go back. There are about again two generals who are still
playing with drugs. And I said, ‘Well, I told you do not destroy my country
because it is being flooded with drugs’,” the President told in a forum by
a Russian committee in Sochi with Russia President Vladimir Putin in
attendance.
Duterte did not name the two
generals yet. “I found out about nine generals were involved in the
trafficking of drugs.” He only named five – retired Deputy Director Gen.
Marcelo Garbo; retired Chief Supt. and now Daanbantayan, Cebu Mayor Vicente
Loot; Police Director Joel Pagdilao; and Chief Superintendents Edgardo Tinio
and Bernardo Diaz.”
The President, however, did
not explicitly said whether the two officials come from the military or police.
He believes that drugs could only prosper
with the help of these officials from the military or police.
Duterte's revelation came amid the controversy following
the PNP involving "ninja cops" or policemen recycling illegal drugs
seized in their operations.
Duterte, on the other hand, had previously said he
reserves judgment on the fate of Albayalde who is set to retire on November 8.
