Manila, Philippines - Defeated Senatorial candidate and former Quezon Representative Erin Tañada has criticized Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo for his misogynistic comments about human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin Clooney on her subsequent decision to represent Maria Ressa.
Maria Ressa is a Filipino-American journalist and the Chief Executive Officer of Rappler who is facing charges including tax evasion and cyber libel.

The former Otso Diretso senatorial candidate on his Twitter account said, Panelo was similar to his boss, President Duterte who is prejudiced against women while at the same time, he was drooling over Amal Clooney.

“Panelo is a Misogynist just like his boss! They don’t see women as equals,” he tweeted.
Panelo earlier said he was “excited to debate” with Clooney, describing her as beautiful and sexy. He also wanted to “educate” her after she was misinformed about the case of Ressa.
“Maybe when we meet, to use the word of the President, I can ‘educate’ her,” Panelo told reporters at Malacañang on Tuesday, regarding on reports that the British-Lebanese wife of Hollywood star George Clooney would be joining Ressa’s legal team.

He said Ressa might have been looking for a lawyer who could be his “match.”
“That’s because if Maria and I get into a debate, she would be pitiful because she isn’t a lawyer. Of course, she would need a lawyer [and she got one] who is pretty and sexy, too,” he said.
