Opposition senatorial bet Mar Roxas joins the battle against
Hugpong ng Pagbabago chair Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, as he believes that
honesty is a virtue importantly needed even in the marketplace.
In an interview over Radio Mindanao Network (RMN) Cebu over
the weekend, the former Interior Secretary stressed that honesty of
politicians should be made an issue this coming election.
“Kung sa palengke nga, ipinaglalaban natin na tama ang timbangan eh, (Even in markets, people would fight for correct weighing scales,” Roxas said, who was popularly known as Mr. Palengke in 2004 elections.
“Kung mga misis, isang guhit lang, 900 grams pero isang kilo
dapat, malaking bagay na, (For our wives, even just a single line—a kilo
instead of 900 grams—is already a big thing for them),” said Roxas.
Roxas is running under the Otso Diretso senatorial slate.
His statement came after controversial statements made by
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio about honesty.
The Davao City Mayor earlier said that honesty should not be
made an issue this election as all candidates have a penchant for lying.
“Para sa akin, importante yung honesty. Kaya nga may
‘Timbangan ng Bayan’ eh (For me, honesty is important. That’s why we have
so-called public weighing scales),” Roxas said
