Makati City- On Friday, President Rodrigo
Duterte was recognized by his alma mater, San Beda.
The San Beda College of Law and the
First Scout Ranger Regiment (FSRR) lauded the president for his leadership and irreplaceable
support to the soldiers.
After his impromptu speech at the
San Beda Law Alumni Home Coming, Mr. Duterte was named “Bedan of the Year”.
The president delivered his speech
for more than an hour, after which, a bust in his image was presented to him
for his “exemplary national leadership.”
The said bust was presented to his
Excellency by lawyers Avelino Cruz and Benedicto Malcontero, Justice Acosta,
and San Beda’s rector and its President, Rev. Fr. Alloysius Ma. Maranan.
As 1972 graduate of San Beda, he
encouraged his fellow alumni to “join hands with the Filipino nation in leading
the way for change and progress.”
“As we move forward, may all of
our achievements enable the college to remain as a great learning institution
committed to its mission of providing excellent and quality education guided by
the Benedictine principles of values and principles. Pati pag-mura,” the President
said, as his schoolmates laugh at him.
The president also received an
Honorary Scout Ranger Badge prior to San Beda’s recognition as he empower the
troops to continue defending the country from the terrorism, extremism and
lawlessness.
“For invaluable support extended
to the First Scout Ranger Regiment, President Duterte on many occasions manifested
great concern for the welfare of Scout Rangers and inspired its officers and
men to their mission,” the citation read during the FSRR’s presentation.
“As such, he is worthy of the
respect and honor to be a member of the Scout Ranger family,” it added.
