Former
senator Antonio Trillanes has joined the bandwagon of those who are calling out
to junk the controversial ant-terrorism due to concerns about possible abuse.
Trillanes,
a known critic of President Rodrigo Duterte, said that people are opposed to the
said bill means they do not trust the administration.
“It should be clear to duterte that the
growing #JunkTerrorBill movement is mainly about the people’s lack of trust in
his administration. Eat your pride and stand down you fool!” Trillanes said in
a Facebook post
The former
mutineer also questioned the government’s sincerity to implement the
anti-terror law because it even limits the visitation rights of detained
senator Leila de Lima.
“Simpleng
visitation rights ni Sen. Leila De Lima na napakalinaw sa batas, binabalasubas
ni duterte, tapos ineexpect natin syang aayos pag binigyan sya ng mas malupit
na kapangyarihan? #JunkTerrorBill,” Trillanes said
He also said
that Duterte should not use the anti-terror bill to address communist rebel because
it was him who released the rebel leaders after all.
“Several
years ago, Gen. Año decimated the NPA leadership without the terror bill. Then
duterte won at pinakawalan sila lahat. Now, you’re telling us na kailangan nyo
ung terror bill para huliin sila ulit? #JunkTerrorBill,” Trillanes said
Earlier, it
was reported that anti-terrorism bill signed by the leaders of both houses of
Congress has already been transmitted to the President for his signature.
The said
bill seeks to strengthen the Human Security Act of 2007 and punish those who
will propose, incite, conspire, participate in the planning, training,
preparation, and facilitation of a terrorist act; including those who will
provide material support to terrorists, and recruit members in a terrorist
organization.
Duterte
could either sign the bill into law immediately or veto it. He could also let it
lapse after 30 days of receipt without signing it.
