Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte is once again the
center of controversies and hate in the social media for recently using her
political campaign bags with her name on it “Joy ng Bayan”.
This has triggered a lot of netizens and posted
bashes left and right against her in social media.
“Naghanap lang po kami ng supot sa bodega
namin. At ‘yan po ay natira sa kampanya. Lahat po ng supot na nakita namin sa bodega ay
ginamit na po natin, dahil nais lang po natin mapababa ang health kit sa
lalong madaling panahon,” said Belmonte in an interview from DZMM
radio.
“Sa lahat po ng na-upset doon, ako po’y
humihingi ng paumanhin. Sorry to those na-offend,” Belmonte added
Mayor Belmonte, daughter of former QC Rep.
Sonny Belmonte was mauled on Twitter for taking advantage of the pandemic
crisis by distributing health kits with her name “Joy ng Bayan” bags unlike
other mayors from other cities like Vico Sotto from Pasig and Marcy Teodoro,
were more sensible and used
neutral bags.
The mayor earned nothing but hate and bashes
from the netizens which angered them instead of giving a relief pack to her
constituents she has the nerve to politicize the situation. Here are some of the
social media comments of the netizens:
Madaming rason para tayo’y mangamba dahil hindi biro ang panganib na dulot ng COVID-19. Pero kapit lang tayo. Namahagi na po tayo ng care package na mayroong vitamins, sabon, masks, at alcohol sa ating mga barangays. pic.twitter.com/lmQYoGKbNQ— Mayor Joy Belmonte (@officialqcmayor) March 17, 2020
Not to brag or anything. I'm not against you Mayor Joy Belmonte, But how dare you to distribute those eco bags with your name embosed to it. It's not even a campaign. Now I get why many people hate you.— L S J (@Infnte008) March 18, 2020

You're the 1st city mayor who declared state of calamity. However, u have MORE time with people bashing u instead of putting up a concrete plan for your city's safety. Mayor Joy Belmonte, ang laki ng ecobag mo w/ ur name on it pero yan lang ang laman? How about those who starve? pic.twitter.com/k8sYtkRPfB— Mister A D B (@MisterADB) March 18, 2020
Finally, it seems the bashing
has knocked into Belmonte’s senses as her
staff has started using clear, unmarked plastic bags for donations.
Aside from the “Joy ng Bayan” embarrassment,
Belmonte was also condemned for her callous remarks that she insisted were
taken out of context.

Mayor Joy Belmonte should learn how to choose the right words to say. Mayor, public official po kayo trabaho nyo po ‘yan. SMH! pic.twitter.com/pEiS9fFpCV
