TV Host Korina Sanchez slams the government over the attempt to shut down ABS CBN saying a “more sinister” rule is in effect although there is no martial law imposed in the country.

“There is no official martial rule here. But in a manner more sinister, it is actually effected. Again, against ABSCBN Broadcasting,” Korina, a well-known journalist of ABS-CBN, said in a Facebook post.

“It may look isolated. But, make no mistake, this bonfire is the bushfire waiting to happen threatening to kill all Filipino civil liberties,” she said.

Korina, wife of former DILG secretary Mar Roxas, remained confident that an attempt to bury the press freedom in the country will not prevail.

“It hasn’t happened yet. If it does, the world will not sit quietly. We, too, will not. Nature cannot be beaten. Press freedom here will not be buried again,” she said.

She also called for support for Kapamilya network as it struggles for its franchise renewal that is about to expire this March 2020.

“And as ABSCBN was largely instrumental in leading the restoration of Filipino free speech after 20 years of martial rule in 1986, so we now must all help protect it for what it stands for. ,” said Korina

President Rodrigo Duterte has repeatedly expressed his desire to close ABS-CBN during his speeches. And recently, Solicitor General Jose Calida has filed a quo warranto petition at the Supreme Court to revoke the existing franchise of the network giant.

ABS CBN has also been accused of multiple violations of the Labor Code particularly over issues of alleged “union busting” as well as contractualization, that resulted to mass layoff of its ground personnel in the past.
