Manila, Philippines - Former President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III on Wednesday expressed doubts why President Rodrigo Duterte don't trust Vice President Leni Robredo considering that he already appointed her as drug czar.

Normally, a presidential appointment requires the Chief Executive’s  trusts in the appointee according to Aquino, someone who they think can get the job done.

“In-appoint mo, hindi mo pinagkakatiwalaan. Parang magulo ata ‘yon. Normally ‘pag ina-appoint mo, pinagkakatiwalaan mo,” he said during the event marking Senator Leila De Lima’s 1,000th day in detention.

In a press conference last Tuesday (November 19), Duterte explained why he didn’t appoint Robredo to a Cabinet rank position despite designating her as co-chairperson of the Inter-Agency Committee on Anti-Illegal Drugs (ICAD) is simply because he doesn’t trust her.

“My problem with Robredo is she talks too much. If that is the way her mouth behaves there can be no position for her,” the President said.

“The problem is I cannot trust her not only because she is with the opposition. I do not trust her because I do not know her,” Duterte added.

Earlier this month, President Duterte appointed Robredo as co-chairperson of the ICAD after the Vice President denounced the government’s effort on the anti-drug campaign.

But the President’s latest statement clarified that Robredo’s ICAD post is not a Cabinet position.
