A report circulated online, confirming that the franchise of the largest media network in the country, ABS-CBN Corporation has already been decided to reject by the Congress.

However, this claim is said to be false as checked by an international news agency according to KAMI.

This was reported by a French news agency Agence France-Presse (AFP), the online report claimed that the network will shut down on March 30, 2020.

The online report, published on August 13, 2019, affirms that the House of Representatives committee has rejected the franchise renewal of Alto Broadcasting System-Chronicle Broadcasting Network (ABS-CBN).

“Confirmed: Kongreso nagbigay na ng hatol! ABS-CBN magsasara na sa March 30, 2020! Panoorin,” as can be seen in the report’s headline.

It was stated in the report that Congress has already given its decision not to renew the ABS-CBN’s franchise.

It also mentions that President Rodrigo Duterte would not allow ABS-CBN to renew its franchise after the alleged refusal to air his campaign during the 2016 Presidential elections.

The report also quoted that ABS-CBN management gave a statement following the Congress’ decision on the renewal for the next 25 years.

As per AFP, the House of Representatives did not act on a November 2018 bill that sought for the franchise renewal of ABS-CBN.

However, the four House bills regarding the franchise renewal is still pending, according to the official website of the House of Representatives.

Currently, the franchise renewal of the Kapamilya network has been filed during the present congressional session which will run until 2022 and it is still on pending status.
