Pwede na pumalit? Vice President Leni Robredo welcomes new AFP chief of staff

Vice President Leni Robredo on Tuesday was the highest ranking official at the change of command ceremony to welcome the new Armed Forces Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Lt. Gen. Noel Clement as President Rodrigo Duterte, for the first time, skipped the event.

According to a report by ABS CBN, President Duterte had to rest due to slight fever after his very tiring schedules.



The President was instead represented by Robredo and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana at the Camp Aguinaldo.

In a Facebook post, the Vice President congratulated Clement and said she was happy to have witnessed the ceremony and personally conveyed her greetings to the official.

“Congratulations sa bagong AFP Chief of Staff Lt. General Noel Clement, pati na kay outgoing Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, Jr. para sa kaniyang serbisyo! Masaya akong masaksihan ang matagumpay na change of command sa AFP upang personal na iparating sa kanila ang ating pagbati.” Robredo said on her post



“Sa gitna ng mga hamon ng ating panahon, sana ay patuloy na lumakas ang ating unipormadong hanay upang lalong mapagpagtibay ang kanilang kakayahan na depensahan ang ating mga teritoryo, pangalagaan ang ating mga karapatan, at protektahan ang sambayanang Pilipino,” She added

Meanwhile, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo explained that Duterte’s “punishing schedule of official and social events the previous days has slightly affected his body temperature.” 


“He opted to rest so he can be his usual healthy self in no time,” Panelo said
