Speaking before newly appointed officials in MalacaƱang on
Monday, President Rodrigo Duterte said he would not allow himself to be jailed
over the drug war killings under his leadership.
The President warned he would drag down to hell those who
would try to put him behind bars.
“Sa drugs kadaming demanda ko, akala ng mga gago mapasok
nila ako sa kulungan…Dalhin ko kayo sa impyerno bago ako papasok diyan.”
Duterte said
Earlier, the chief executive in his usual humor said that
he would not mind going to jail as long as there will be “comfortable
cell” and “unlimited” conjugal visits.
In his fourth State of the Nation Address (Sona), Duterte,
said: “Extrajudicial killings? Report to the ICC (International Criminal
Court)? Go ahead. As long as I have a comfortable cell.”
“It should be heated during wintertime, installed with
air-conditioning during the hot weather,” he added.
Since Duterte assumed the presidency in 2016, he made it his solemn promise to fight against illegal narcotics and criminality.

With this, alleged extra-judicial killings issues resurfaced
from time to time and international human rights watchdog became critical
of Duterte, citing human rights violations.
And since 2016, more than 5,000 drug suspects have been
killed in anti-drug operations, data from the Philippine Drug Enforcement
Agency showed.
Further, the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) has
adopted an Iceland-led resolution – which called for a comprehensive report on
the said human rights issue in the Philippines.
