After the closure of the
government-led games over corruption allegations as ordered by President Rodrigo Roa
Duterte, hundreds of thousands of Lotto stations workers and gaming outlets
will be jobless hence they will be needing assistance.
Because of this, Senator Nancy
Binay has urged the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) to extend
assistance, including providing emergency jobs to these displaced employees following
the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office shutdown.
“We appeal to the Department of Labor and
Employment to immediately extend aid to workers affected by the closure of more
than 30,000 lotto stations and gaming outlets nationwide,” Binay said in a Facebook post.
Habang di pa malinaw kung kailan ili-lift ang
suspension ng PCSO gaming operations, marami sa mga franchise operators ang
tiyak na mapipilitan i-lay off ang kanilang mga empleyado dahil wala naman nang
source of revenue para paswelduhin sila–not to mention the monthly rental and
utility expenses,” she added/
“Let’s face it, malaking dagok sa mga empleyado
ang nangyari at nagkagulatan sa pagka-anunsyo ng closure. Never were the
displaced workers factored in the suspension of PCSO operations, but at least
DOLE can help in cushioning the negative impact of being jobless,” she said.
According to Binay many Filipinos all over the country are
affected by the President’s order, with Small Town Lottery (STL) alone
employing more than 300,000 workers, based on the PCSO’s 2018 accomplishment
report.
It is still uncertain when the President will lift the
suspension order against PCSO gaming operations, Binay said it is best that
DOLE intervenes and assists the displaced workers as soon as possible..
