The Philippine Military Academy Alumni Association, Inc.
(PMAAAI) on Monday declared news anchor and broadcaster Erwin Tulfo as persona
non grata after his rants about Social Welfare and Development Secretary
Rolando Bautista, a retired military general.
PMAAAI Chairman and CEO retired Major General Rufo De Veyra,
and president and Chief Operating Officer, Police Colonel Arthur Bisnar has
issued the agreed resolution.
The declaration cited Tulfo "viciously maligned"
Bautista with "foul, offensive and derogatory language."
PMAAAI bickered that Tulfo’s behavior was not only contrary
to the Broadcast Code of the Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) and
the Journalists' Code of Ethics of the National Press Club (NPC) but also
violated the Cybercrime Prevention Act of 2012 and the Revised Penal Code because
he also uploaded it on his Facebook page.
"These libelous language of Mr. Tulfo, effectively and
assiduously erodes the 'faith and trust in government' by the Filipino
people," the resolution read.
Tulfo will be "dispossessed of the privileges and
courtesies granted to responsible media practitioners" for activities
inside or outside areas of jurisdiction by the Association or any of its
chapter members and affiliate organizations.
“The PMAAAI takes offense and strongly condemns the boorish behavior
and derogatory remarks of Mr. Tulfo that spilled over the ranks of the active
and retired Officers, Men, and Women of the MUP thereby assailing the very core
of service to country and people of which the PMAAAI squarely stands for,” the
resolution also reads.
If recalled, Tulfo's tirade against Bautista happened after
the latter rejected a call for an interview during the broadcaster’s radio
program ‘Tutok Tulfo’.
The broadcaster has issued public apology earlier, whereas,
Bautista gave several conditions that Tulfo must follow for him to obtain his forgiveness.
The resolution was approved during the PMAAAI Board of
Directors meeting held last June 7, 2019 in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City.
