Newly elected senators Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. and Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa said they would both push for the re-imposition of the death penalty in the next Congress.

While saying he is “pro-life", Revilla said he’s also considering to push the restoration of death penalty in the country.

“Pag-aralan nating mabuti ‘yan. Ako, ever since naman pro-life, pero siyempre i-consider din natin kung ano ‘yong epekto ng ginagawa nitong mga tao, minsan abusado talaga,” Revilla said in an interview, as reported by the Politiko

Dela Rosa, the architect of President Rodrigo Duterte’s war against illegal drugs said he would push the death penalty on drug-related crimes.

Earlier, Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III had brought out the possibility of the restoration of capital punishment for high-level drug trafficking entering the next Senate, which is among President Duterte administration’s priority bills.

In the past, the death penalty was already abolished twice  first under late President Cory Aquino, and then under the presidency of Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.
