Vice President Leni Robredo lauded Asia’s Songbird Regine
Velasquez for recently speaking up her mind to defend the country’s sovereignty
in the West Philippine Sea amid China’s aggressive reclamation activities.
According to a Politiko report, Robredo praised Velasquez as
she hit administration officials for seemingly hiding under a rug concerning
the WPS dispute.
“Masaya tayo na nagboboses kasi iyon naman iyong frustration
natin minsan na iyong mga taong humahawak ng kapangyarihan, parang iyong
inaasahan kong mangunguna, iyon tuloy iyong hindi nagpaparinig ng boses,” Robredo
said in her weekly radio show on dzXL radio.
The Vice President said she is inspired by celebrities who
speak up their thoughts on political issues because they could be attacked by
trolls on social media because of it.
“Alam natin, Ka Ely, na iyong naglalakas-loob na mag-boses,
hindi iyon madali dahil vulnerable ka sa mga atake. Pero ito, matatapang kaya
pinapahayag iyong mga saloobin,” Robredo said
On Friday, Velasquez blasted Foreign Affairs Secretary
Teodoro Locsin Jr. after the latter said that China should just pay for giant
clams that its fishermen had been poaching in the area — “like fish in market”
— instead of getting into a war with the Philippines.
“Ang akala ko pa naman matalino ka. Ako ay simpling tao
lamang na may simpleng pagiisip. These people are invading our territory they
are not just taking food sinistral nila ang ating karagatan!!!!” Velasquez said
in a tweet.
