Manila, Philippines – In commemoration of 1986 EDSA People
Power Revolution, Senator Gregorio Honasan II on Monday said Filipinos deserve
to be told with genuine stories why it happened.
"It is of utmost importance to tell the true story of
the February 1986 Revolution to our most precious children, the next generation
of citizens and leaders, why it happened, what it was for and not
against," Honasan said in Facebook post.
"We will not compete for attention with those who
distort facts and history, continue to claim credit and propriety ownership
over what rightfully belongs to the Filipino people," he added.
Honasan was then a member of the Reform the Armed Forces Movement (RAM), a group which played a key role in 1986 People Power Revolution.
RAM was a group of officers from the AFP that broke away
from the leadership of late Ferdinand Marcos.
It was also the same group that staged the failed military uprising
in August 1987 under Marcos’ successor, Cory Aquino.
The former senator also appealed to the public to remember EDSA
People Power Revolution for what it was for and "continue to work and pray
hard for reforms more than just change in personalities, national unity, lasting
peace and prosperity."
