Manila, Philippines – Opposition senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Wednesday warned President Rodrigo Duterte that he “will pay” for killing people to push for his brutal war on illegal drugs.

Trillanes made the statement after the President slammed him for criticizing the result of a recent survey by Social Weather Station (SWS) showing that majority of the people believed that the number of drug users has declined.

“Mr. Duterte, let me break it down for you like you’re a 5-year old. If you were able to reduce the number of addicts because they were rehabilitated; the drug lords were imprisoned; and the shabu supply stopped; then you can say that your anti-drug program is effective,” the opposition senator said.

“But, no, their number reduced because you did the most simplistic, most ruthless and most barbaric option there is: you had your countrymen killed even on mere suspicion of drug use,” Trillanes said

“And for those crimes, mananagot ka!” he said.

Earlier, following the result of SWS survey, Trillanes scolded Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo for bragging about the President’s accomplishment in his war on drugs.

“Since libu-libo ang pinatay nyo na addicts (since thousands of drug addicts have died) without due process and without giving them the opportunity to be rehabilitated, di ba natural lang na mababawasan ang addicts (Isn’t it natural that they were minimized?) ” Trillanes said in a statement.

“So, what are you celebrating, Mr. Panelo, the ruthlessness of your boss?” he added
