President Rodrigo Duterte once again warned the New
People’s Army (NPA) to stop extorting money from the people, threatening
families or businessmen if they refuse to pay revolutionary taxes.
“Ang mga NPA, kayo nakikinig kayo ngayon, kung gusto talaga
ninyong tumulong, stop the extortion. Those are one of the things that I have
just — when I was shooting the breeze with some of your guys. You will have to
stop extorting money and ‘yung taxation ninyo,” the president said
Duterte pointed out that not even the government could
collect money just like that to permit those who are campaigning.
“If you can’t stop extortion, you have no business… Hindi ka
nga… Putang… Hindi nga nagkukubra ang gobyerno, kayo pa,” the president said
“We don’t even ask a single centavo and you are there giving
permits.” He said
“So you compete with
government. So it is as if there is two governments in this Republic and so
hindi talaga tayo magkaintindihan niyan. Away ‘yan,” he added.
