Manila,
Philippines – Following the resignation of four heads revisors from the manual
recount of ballots in the 2016-vice presidential election, former Senator Ferdinand
Marcos Jr. cannot help but express worry.
“We are
surprised and concerned with the withdrawal of the four head revisors for no
apparent reason,” Marcos said.
Presidential
Electoral Tribunal (PET) has reported that four head revsisors did not report
for work since Tuesday.
According
to a source from PET, the resignations might affect the recount pacing. The tribunal
had intended to hire 50 revision committees but head revisors were only
assigned to 40 committees.
The former
senator hopes that withdrawal will not cause delays on recount especially after
they found “clear signs of fraud.” He lost the vice presidency to former
Camarines Sur representative Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo by 263, 473 votes only.
Marcos also
pointed out that those tasked with the recount of ballots were not ordinary
revisors as they all went through difficult process of screening as well as psychological
tests by the Supreme Court.
Lawyer of
Marcos’ camp Atty. Vic Rodriguez said in an interview that there were at least
290, 000 undervotes in Camarines Sur, Negros and Iloilo that are supposedly
enough to overturn the results.
Meanwhile, Robredo’s
lawyer, Romulo Macalintal said that; “[N]o protestant has ever won an election
based on undervotes…The presence of undervotes is not because the vote-counting
machines failed to count the votes [accurately]. It is due to the error
committed by the voter,”
He added
that Robredo could also claim the same undervotes.
The Liberal
Party expressed confidence that the recount would be able to lay to rest the
doubts on 2016 vice-presidential elections.
