Manila, Philippines – On Wednesday, Public Works and
Highways Secretary Mark Villar together with Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade
opened the 10.10 kilometers segment of the Tarlac Pangasinan-La Union
Expressway (TPLEX.
The said segment spanned the Binalonan and Pozorubio towns
in Pangasinan.
With this, travel time from Tarlac to Baguio has significantly
reduced to 2 hours and 45 minutes.
This expansion also aimed to decongest the traffic problem
along Manila North Road, in particular to motorists going to La Union, passing
the Binalonan and Pozorrubio highway.
Now, instead of getting through the Manila North Road, those
from Binalonan TPLEX can just pass straight ahead to Pozzorubio exit going to
Baguio City, especially this Christmas season.
In his Facebook page, Sec. Villar said;
“The additional 10-km road would ease traffic and
significantly reduce the volume of vehicles as well as travel time from Tarlac
to Pozorrubio from two hours and 30 minutes to just 45 minutes,”
Meanwhile, the last segment of TPLEX, which is the 10.92-kilometer
Pozorrubio to Rosario, La Union segment will be finished by June 2019.
Pangasinan Governor Amado Espino also thanked the national
government for making the project possible. The provincial government will also
benefit it terms of taxes.
