Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte’s party Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP)said on Wednesday, declined Cong. Paolo Duterte’s possible plan to run for the House leadership later this coming month.

The HNP founder said in a statement that because of “delicadeza,” her father, President Rodrigo Duterte “will not accept” his son’s aspiration, “to resolve the conflict” among contender competing for the speakership this coming 18th Congress.

As a result, Mayor Sara’s regional entity has come up in an agreement and chose returning Davao City 2nd district Rep. Isidro Ungab to run for Speakership of the House of Representatives this coming July 23.

“We are endorsing the bid of Congressman Isidro Ungab for speaker,” HNP’s statement.

The HNP announced a day after Paolo decided to finally join the speakership feat because of Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano’s obsession to push for the ‘term-sharing’ issue.

Pulong said in an earlier statement that he wants to unite the divided members of House of Representatives if he would become the Speaker of the House. Members of the Lower House are currently hesitant between three aspirants namely Cayetano, Marinduque Rep. Lord Allan Velasco, and Leyte Rep. Ferdinand Martin Romualdez.

HNP also proposed that the three candidates in the speakership should just be assigned to other key positions and committee chairmanships under the new House leadership.

Congressman Alberto Ungab, a veteran lawmaker formerly chaired the House Committee on Appropriations and the Committee on Ways and Means during the 14th, 15th, and 16th Congress.

“We suggest that Cong. Alan Peter Cayetano take the Majority Leader position, Cong. Lord Alan Velasco to take the Appropriations Committee, and Cong. Martin Romualdez to head the Accounts committee,” the HNP said in a statement

“We earnestly hope that everyone can see the light in this option and move forward with urgency in serving our country.”
