Manila, Philippines - Defeated senatorial candidate and former military man Gary Alejano shares his knowledge about economics.
The former Magdalo Partylist representative has found a way to criticize the Duterte administration, not on foreign policy or other matters but this time it is about economics.

Alejano observes the slower inflation status of our country, as opposed to what the Cabinet Secretaries are saying. He believes there is no need to commend the government’s effort for lowering the inflation rate because prices are still going up, according to him.
“Lowering of inflation rate does not mean lowering of prices of basic commodities. Matataas na at nag slown down lang sa pagtaas, pero ‘di bumaba,” He said.
Recently, Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo said in an interview, the Duterte administration deserves praise for the lower inflation rate.
“Where are the critics and the detractors? Why are you suddenly silent? Don’t you think it’s about time for you to give a little praise to the economic managers, to the lawmakers, and to this President – who together have done something to reduce and slay the soaring inflation rate?” Panelo said

Alejano was referring to Rappler’s analysis on whether to praise the Duterte administration for lowering inflation or not. In this article, they explain why the administration deserves neither credit nor praise for lower inflation.
According to Rappler's analysis, since prices have been very high last year, and prices have now stabilized at high levels, we can expect inflation to drop significantly this year. Because we are no longer disturbed now by high inflation, that’s because prices are already “cruising” at a relatively high altitude. We can expect inflation to drop.
