Manila, Philippines – “berdugong Anghel” is how Chief Presidential Legal Counsel Salvador Panelo described President Rodrigo Duterte when it comes to his leadership ways.

From the scene stealer himself, Panelo cited that the president has one principle in his presidency – that is to obey the mandate of the Constitution.

Panelo, who is also known as the lawyer to the stars added that President Duterte is an angel who gives love and protection to his people while being tough to crime offenders.

“I was asked to describe him. How are you going to describe Duterte? He is my friend for more than 30 years. We can call him ‘berdugong anghel.’ He is tough with criminals, on irregularities, and on all kinds of illegal activities in our country. He is an angel who gives love and protection to our countrymen,” Panelo said while attending the bicentennial anniversary in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur last Friday.

“The President said that ‘there is only one principle that my presidency will observe and that is what the Constitution mandates me, directs me and orders me.’ That is to serve and protect the people,” he added.

He also describes his friend’s brand of leadership style, being tough and that for sure, there will be people or groups that might try to drag him down as they crumble on Duterte’s kind of presidency style.

“Let us pray for our President. Let us storm the heavens with our prayers and ask the angels to come and spread their wings over this man so that he will be shielded from harm, injury, or anything that will hamper his presidency,” Panelo said.

Panelo also shared a story from eight years ago, that he had convinced the then Davao City Mayor

Duterte to run for president as he believes that he is destined to become the President of this country.

“Eight years have passed (since) I asked him repeatedly to run for president. I said you have a date with destiny, you have an appointment with history, and you have no more opportunity or reason not to run for the presidency because you’re destined to become president,” he recalled, adding that, should President Duterte survive his term, he will end up as the greatest president that our country ever had.
