Opposition Senator Francis “Kiko” Pangilinan mocked President
Rodrigo Duterte for his boldness in threatening Canada to war over tons of trash
dumped in the Philippines but can't even rile China despite its repeated incursions in Philippine territory.
“Gigiyerahin ang Canada dahil sa basura pero walang imik sa
China sa pagpapalusot ng iligal na droga at pagsakop sa ating mga isla. Weh,”
wrote Pangilinan on Twitter.
President Duterte on Tuesday said that he will give warning
to Canada to pull out their garbage.
According to a report by CNN Philippines, there are total o 103
containers holding 2,450 tons of trash that were shipped to the Philippines in
2013 and 2014.
“They have been sending their trash to us. Well, not this
time. We will quarrel with each other. So what if we quarrel with Canada? We’ll
declare war against them, we can beat them. Buang ito kinakaya-kaya tayo. Hindi
ako papayag ng ganoon,” the President said in Pampanga
The said containers were reportedly labeled as plastics for
recycling, however, inspectors found that garbage inside was not recyclable.
The trash was declared illegal as the private
Canada-based company responsible for shipping the cargo didn't have import
clearances, CNN report said.
"I cannot understand why they are making us a dump
site" said Duterte,
